Dehradun: In an effort to bridge the gap between rural talent and the tech industry, Team Computers has launched its Global Delivery Centre (GDC) at Tatva Hills, Uttarakhand. The initiative aims to empower local students and drive economic growth in the region.
Since its establishment, the GDC has already created tech job opportunities for more than 50 engineers from rural areas of Haldwani, Ramnagar, Almora, and other cities. This has helped them to thrive in a corporate environment without the need for them to migrate to metro cities. In addition, the GDC has also collaborated with local engineering and polytechnic colleges to provide intensive 15-30 day training to students in technical skills. This ensures that the students are prepared for the tech industry jobs and also fosters a robust talent pipeline in the state of Uttarakhand.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Ranjan Chopra, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Team Computers said, “We are committed to making Uttarakhand a new tech hub for India. Our Global Delivery Centers not only create jobs but also provide opportunities for talent in Tier 2 & Tier 3 cities to contribute to the digital economy while staying close to their roots.”
With similar centers also present in Noida and Bengaluru, the GDC in Uttarakhand is part of Team Computers’ broader Managed Services strategy. By incorporating rural talent into its operations, the company is promoting regional development while maintaining high-quality service quality for its clients. This initiative is a transformative step for Uttarakhand, positioning the state as an emerging hub in India’s tech landscape.
APAC News Analysis:
The launch of the Global Delivery Centre in a small region of Uttarakhand highlights the importance of bridging the gap between untapped rural talent and the burgeoning tech industry in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. More significantly, it addresses a crucial issue of a growing trend of urban migration. With overburdened infrastructure, housing shortages, and increased pressure on essential services, urban migration can sometimes result in poor quality of life. In addition, the phenomenon drains local talent out of smaller cities and towns, creating a growing disparity between urban and rural/town regions. By offering localized opportunities and skills training, initiatives such as the GDC enable smaller cities to actively contribute to India’s economy, while reducing the need to travel to metro cities in search of jobs, thereby fostering regional development.
The collaboration with engineering and polytechnic colleges for technical training further highlights the importance of cultivating a robust talent pipeline in these regions. Through this move, Team Computers is tapping into a largely underutilized talent pool while diversifying the workforce and spreading economic benefits beyond metropolitan areas. Such efforts are instrumental in positioning smaller cities as viable contributors to the national tech landscape, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and balanced growth model across India.
