London: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s UK visit has witnessed more British industrialists directly jumping into the Bengal bandwagon.
Several British organizations have already drawn up roadmaps for Bengal during their second round of meetings on 26 March with the Bengal delegates.
A few will likely visit Kolkata and Bengal for overall monitoring in the next two to three months. The focus sectors will be garments, metal engineering, and energy conservation, among others.
Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and Industries Secretary Vandana Yadav represented the West Bengal government in many of these interactions with British industrialists. They emphasized the synergy committee and the single window clearance mechanisms now prevalent in the state.
Berkeley CEO Steven Flaherty proposed setting up a Global Capability Center (GCC) in Kolkata. With 50 per cent of Berkeley employees being Indians, the Berkeley representatives will soon visit Kolkata to finalize the logistics.
Gravitricity Chairman Martin Wright and CEO Allan Evett talked about a special technology to conserve gravitational energy. A team is soon visiting Bengal to leverage the abandoned mines in the state for that purpose.
Scottish Life Science CEO Scott Johnstone proposed investment across Bengal in the areas of medical devices, diagnostic devices and digital health systems.
Henry Knowles of Vesuvius Group expressed interest in expanding their already existing business in Bengal. They have already expanded three times in Bengal.
