London: An entourage of industrialists from Bengal accompanying Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the official visit to the UK exhorted the British industry to invest in West Bengal.
This was during an industrial meetup in London attended by more than 150 businesses. The first deal was inked between Manchester City Football Club with Techno India group to set up an academy in Kolkata.
Bengal is carving its place on the global stage.

C K Dhanuka of Dhansiri Ventures, Harsh Neotia of Ambuja Neotia Group, K K Bangur of Graphiti India, Mehul Mohanka of Tega Industries, Rudra Chatterjee of Lakshmi Group, Shaswat Goenka of RPG Group, Sanjay Budhia of Patton International, Satyam Roychoudhury of Techno India, Tarun Jhunjhunwala of Reliance Industries and Umesh Chaudhary of Titagarh Railways presented the business friendly environment of the state to their British counterparts.
British companies from BFSI, IT, consulting, energy, manufacturing, retail and education were present at the meeting. These included Arup, Behold.i, Zedo, BT, Vesuvius, IAG International Airlines, Connected Places, Catapult and others. Quote a few SMEs, including Russell Group and a few British Universities were also present.
Allan Campbell of British Airways informed about plans going on to launch direct flights between London and Kolkata. Meanwhile, an executive, Arena William, outlined her good experience after her MNC opened up a branch in Kolkata.
The CM also promised discounts on fuel for those airlines that would first set up bases in Kolkata. UKIBC Chairman Richard Heald also praised the business climate of Bengal and the extensive digitalization conducted here.
