Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation is planning to leverage AI and analytics to track illegal car parking especially in the night across the city.
The in-house IT team of KMC will start this automated system that will ensure preventive actions against illegally parked cars.
The software app will automatically click pictures of the vehicles that are illegally parked and subsequently AI will derive all the relevant information.
Subsequently the vehicle owners will be informed over SMS or Whatsapp messages about the fines incurred as a result. The owners have to then deposit the fine amounts in KMC’s parking department. This will also increase the revenues of KMC’s car parking department manifold as thr automated system will not let any violation go scot free.
Like Kolkata Police, KMC’s new mechanism of tracking illegally parked vehicles and issuing e-challans will allow them to discard earlier procedures like clamping cars.
Currently with the technology ready, KMC is awaiting government approval on the project. It is being planned especially for congested areas where illegal parking has become a menace.
