Kolkata: The night time bus service is restarting in Kolkata after a hiatus of seven years. This service was running in Kolkata from 4 September 2018 but got disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The service will resume as of now in 20 routes across the city and will be running from Monday to Friday. This was informed by the State Transport Minister Snehashish Chakraborty today.
Subsequently, depending on passenger intake and reception, the routes will be increased. The fares through will remain the same as earlier, he informed.
The routes include Garia – Howrah Station, Joka – Howrah Station, Howrah Station – Airport, Santragachi – Eco Space, Jadavpur – Howrah, Ultadanga – Eco Space, Barasat – Garia, Rathtala – Howrah, Ballygunge Station – Howrah and Shakuntala Park – Karunamoyee. Each of these routes will run two to three buses.
With Kolkata Metro also starting separate night bus services, this could improve the overall number of buses running in the night. This concern was recently raised by the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, about the paucity of buses on Kolkata roads in the night.
The last of these buses will start at 10.45 pm and will go on till midnight. They will touch important points like Dunlop, Dharmatala, Shyambazar, Exide, Science City, Park Circus, Khidirpur, Jadavpur 8B, Garia, Karunamoyee and Tollygunge among others.
