Kolkata: The West Bengal Urban Housing Department has set up two housing apartments, Nijanna and Sujanna, in New Town, Kolkata, specifically targeting the weaker socio-economic strata of the population.
The Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, inaugurated these two apartments yesterday, specifically targeting the economically weaker sections among the urban population.
These apartments have come up in the New Town Action Area 2C, where the state government has given seven acres of land absolutely free of cost for these two apartments.
The total expenditure incurred by the government for the two apartments was Rs 290 crore. The flats will be available at a much lower value than prevailing market rates as they are targeted towards lower-income groups.
The CM inaugurated the total project worth Rs 455.50 crore. While the apartments cost Rs 290 crore, the rest has been allocated for a multistoried parking lot and other facilities.
These flats in both apartments will be sold via a lottery. The flats at Nijanna are all 1BHK and are between 300-410 sq ft. in size.
The flats in Sujanna are all 2BHK and are between 620-730 sq ft in size.
The remaining Rs 160.50 crore was spent on a children’s park and a food court named Taranna. There is a two-floor cafeteria, a 200-seater open auditorium and a separate space for a morning walk.
In addition, a multistoried eight-floor parking lot with facilities to park 1,512 cars has also been built next to the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre at Rajarhat. This has been named Susampanna.
HIDCO is responsible for all the projects. On housing infrastructure, the state has already built 45 lakh houses under the Banglar Bari project.
At the same function, the CM also virtually inaugurated two bridges from Moynaguri to Jalpesh Mandir over the river and another from Jalpesh Mela Ground to Jalpesh Mandir Shiv Chaturdashi gate.
