Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has signed a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to strengthen healthcare services in remote border areas.Â
The MoU was signed at the Chief Minister’s residence in the presence of Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat and Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bahuguna.
Healthy Border Campaign Launched
The agreement marks the first phase of the Healthy Border Campaign. It aims to provide integrated primary healthcare services to residents of 108 border villages in Pithoragarh, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi districts. The initiative focuses on improving access to medical care in hard-to-reach areas near the India-China border.
Under the MoU, ITBP will deploy qualified doctors and paramedical staff in the selected villages. Mobile medical units equipped with MI rooms and essential equipment will make regular visits. Telemedicine services will also be introduced to connect villagers with specialists.
Healthcare Support and Emergency Services
The programme includes maintaining medical records of beneficiaries and ensuring a steady supply of medicines and consumables. Emergency evacuation and communication support will be provided during critical situations.
As per the agreement, ITBP Headquarters, Northern Frontier, Dehradun, will act as the First Party, while the Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare, Uttarakhand, will be the Second Party. The state government will share demographic data and provide initial medical equipment, along with medicines, every six months.
Boost to Local Livelihoods
The MoU also supports local farmers through the procurement of agricultural and dairy products via cooperatives. Previous agreements led to the purchase of over 3.79 lakh kg of livestock and fish products and more than 3.25 lakh litres of dairy products, valued at over Rs. 11.94 crore.
For 2026, total procurement is projected at Rs. 32.76 crore. This includes livestock, poultry, trout, milk, paneer, fruits, and vegetables, ensuring direct income to local producers.
