New Delhi: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) is turning to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)-based innovations to bridge India’s vast linguistic diversity and promote inclusive digital communication.
Secretary of MIB, Sanjay Jaju, IAS, held a key interaction with incubators, AI startups and academic representatives at T-Hub, Hyderabad, India’s prominent startup ecosystem.
The meeting was attended by the CEO of T-Hub, startups currently incubated there, and representatives from institutions, including IIT Hyderabad and Centres of Excellence from NITs and engineering colleges. The focus was on exploring scalable AI solutions that can enhance media outreach in multiple languages across the country.
Highlighting the Ministry’s initiatives, Jaju shared that the MIB has launched the WaveX Startup Accelerator Platform to strengthen the creator economy and drive innovation in the media and entertainment space. Two major challenges under this platform, ‘Kalaa Setu’ and ‘Bhasha Setu’, have been rolled out to encourage AI-driven development of culturally and linguistically inclusive technologies.
“These challenges are vital to building a future-ready digital ecosystem that mirrors India’s linguistic and cultural richness,” Jaju said, urging startups to actively participate and offer indigenous solutions. Applications for both challenges can be submitted via the official WaveX portal, where technical requirements are also available.
Finalists will pitch their solutions before a national jury in New Delhi. Winners will receive full-scale development support, pilot collaboration with national broadcasters AIR, DD, and PIB, and incubation under the WaveX Innovation Platform.
WaveX, part of the Ministry’s broader WAVES initiative, was first launched at the WAVES Summit in Mumbai in May 2025. Since then, it has facilitated pitching for over 30 startups and continues to offer hackathons, mentorship, and integration opportunities with key government and media platforms.
