New Delhi: The government has appointed Akash Tripathi, a 1998-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, as the new Managing Director of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). He is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power and will take charge from MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi, who has been holding additional charge of the post since the exit of RP Gupta.
He has held several key positions in both the central government and Madhya Pradesh, including MD and CEO of Digital India Corporation, CEO of India Semiconductor Mission, and CEO of MyGov.in. In his cadre state, he worked extensively on e-governance, energy reforms, IT-based citizen services, and rural development, gaining experience at the intersection of governance and energy policy.
SECI, a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, has been instrumental in implementing competitive bidding for solar and wind projects, facilitating investment, and supporting project development. With India targeting 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, SECI’s role has expanded into emerging areas such as hybrid projects, green hydrogen, and energy storage.
His appointment comes at a critical juncture in India’s energy transition. His combined experience in digital governance and power sector administration is expected to support SECI in addressing investment challenges and scaling up renewable projects, as the government seeks to accelerate its clean energy roadmap.
