Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Sonali Sen Gupta as Executive Director (ED).
Before this appointment, she served as the Regional Director for Karnataka at the Bengaluru Regional Office.
In her new capacity, Sen Gupta will lead three key departments of the central bank — the Consumer Education and Protection Department, the Financial Inclusion and Development Department, and the Inspection Department. These divisions are vital to the RBI’s focus on improving financial awareness, ensuring consumer protection, and strengthening regulatory supervision across the banking sector.
With a career spanning more than three decades at the RBI, Sen Gupta brings experience in financial inclusion policy, human resource management, and banking regulation. Her background across these core areas is expected to support the RBI’s objectives of expanding financial access and reinforcing trust in the formal banking system.
Sen Gupta’s appointment reflects the central bank’s commitment to inclusive growth, stronger consumer safeguards, and a more responsive regulatory framework. Her leadership is expected to contribute to advancing the RBI’s goals at a time of rapid transformation in India’s financial ecosystem.
