Patna: IAS Anil Kumar of the 2017 batch, belonging to the Bihar cadre, has assumed charge as Director of the Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD) of the Bihar government.
He took over responsibilities at Soochna Bhavan, marking an important administrative change in the state’s information and communication setup.
After assuming office, Kumar said his main priority would be to ensure that information about government welfare schemes reaches every citizen, with special focus on people living in remote rural areas and villages. He noted that lack of awareness often prevents beneficiaries from accessing schemes meant for them.
The new IPRD Director said the department would adopt a multi-pronged communication strategy to expand its reach. This would include the use of digital platforms, traditional media such as print and broadcast, and grassroots-level awareness campaigns. He said these methods would help reach people living in nondescript and underserved regions of the state.
Kumar added that special attention would be given to spreading awareness about schemes related to women’s empowerment, education, health, agriculture, and poverty alleviation. He stressed that clear and timely communication in these sectors is essential for inclusive development.
Kumar holds a B.Tech degree and has earlier served as Collector and District Magistrate of Araria.
