New Delhi: The Central Secretariat Metro station is set to become a triple interchange station under the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) newly approved Phase 5 (A) corridors, significantly enhancing connectivity in the heart of the national capital.
Currently serving as an interchange between the Yellow and Violet lines, Central Secretariat will also be connected to the Magenta Line through the Central Vista Corridor extension from RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha. This expansion will directly link all Kartavya Bhawans, offering seamless, doorstep connectivity to nearly 60,000 daily office-goers and around two lakh visitors.
DMRC officials said the enhanced network is expected to ease congestion, reduce dependence on private vehicles and contribute to lower pollution levels and fossil fuel use.
The expansion will also create four additional interchange stations under the ongoing Phase 4 projects. Azadpur station, which presently connects the Yellow and Pink lines, will be linked to the Janakpuri West–RK Puram section of the Magenta Line.
Lajpat Nagar, an interchange between the Violet and Pink lines, will be connected to the proposed Golden Line from Lajpat Nagar to Saket’s Block G.
Inderlok station, currently linking the Red and Green lines, and New Delhi station, which connects the Yellow Line with the Airport Express Line, will also be integrated with the Magenta Line’s Inderlok–Indraprastha corridor.
With this approval, the entire stretch from Inderlok to Indraprastha and from RK Ashram Marg to Janakpuri will form part of the Magenta Line. Earlier, the Inderlok–Indraprastha section had been mapped under the Green Line due to the Central Vista Corridor pending approval.
At present, DMRC operates 29 interchange stations. This number will increase to 43 after Phase 4 and further to 46 following the completion of Phase 5 (A).
Kashmiri Gate remains the only operational triple interchange station so far, connecting the Yellow, Violet and Red lines.
