New Delhi: Delhi Metro has stepped up pollution-control efforts across the capital by installing mist spray systems at 37 stations and deploying anti-smog guns at 83 locations, following directions from the Delhi government.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) informed the government that these measures are aimed at reducing dust and airborne pollutants in high-traffic and construction-heavy areas.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, anti-smog guns have been installed at several key metro stations, including Kashmere Gate, Samaypur Badli, Dwarka Sector-21, Rajouri Garden, Anand Vihar, Peeragarhi, Ashok Vihar and Metro Bhawan.
The installation of all planned anti-smog guns is expected to be completed by 15 January, with a proposal underway to add 20 more units. Dust-control measures have also been intensified at metro construction sites.
In addition, DMRC has announced plans to paint around 200 metro pillars with nature-inspired artwork, blending environmental awareness with urban beautification.
Mist spray systems work by releasing a fine spray of water particles that bind with dust and particulate matter, helping them settle and thereby improving air quality. Such systems are already operational in parts of New Delhi Municipal Council areas and around ITO, which face high dust levels due to traffic and construction.
The Delhi Cabinet had in December mandated the installation of mist systems on high-rise commercial buildings where anti-smog guns are not in place, as part of the city’s broader pollution-control strategy.
