Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the appointment of IAS Anindita Mitra as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab.
Mitra is a 2007-batch officer belonging to the Punjab cadre. She will succeed IAS Sibin C in this new role. Sibin has been appointed as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
Prior to this appointment, Mitra served as the Administrative Secretary of Punjab, a role in which she oversaw portfolios including Higher Education & Languages, School Education, and Co-operation. She has also served as the Municipal Commissioner of Chandigarh from 2021 to 2024 and CEO of Chandigarh Smart City Limited, wherein she managed urban development and smart city initiatives.
Earlier in her career, Mitra served as the Deputy Commissioner in Nawanshahr and Hoshiarpur and as the Additional Deputy Commissioner in Patiala.
Mitra’s appointment as the CEO of Punjab aims to reinforce administrative efficiency in the state’s electoral management. Her previous experience in civic administration, smart city projects, and district governance is expected to ensure transparency and innovation in the state’s administration.
