New Delhi: Tata Memorial Centre, a grant-in-aid institution under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Wipro GE Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. to establish a state-of-the-art Cancer Research and Innovation Centre.
Under the partnership, Wipro GE Healthcare will serve as the technology partner, while Tata Memorial Centre will lead as the clinical oncology partner.

Rising Cancer Burden in India
India continues to face a growing cancer burden. Around 100 out of every one lakh people are diagnosed with cancer, and the incidence of cancer cases is projected to rise by 12.8 per cent in 2025 compared to 2020, according to data from the Cancer Registry Program. These trends highlight the urgent need for precision-driven and AI-enabled solutions to improve early detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
Focus on Research, Technology, and Innovation
The new centre aims to accelerate the development and validation of emerging technologies in oncology. The scope includes AI-based applications for medical imaging, advanced visualization tools, and digital platforms to support clinical workflows. The partnership will also work on hardware and software solutions for image post-processing and analysis, along with enterprise applications for health informatics and management.
Data annotation for application development and digital solutions to optimize cancer care delivery will be key focus areas of the collaboration.
Leadership Perspectives
Dr. C. S. Pramesh, Director of Tata Memorial Hospital, said the government is taking a policy-driven approach to combat cancer through expanded care facilities, screening, and awareness programs. He noted that early detection and equitable access remain challenges, and said the partnership with GE HealthCare aims to enhance clinical research and academic engagement to improve personalized cancer care.
Chaitanya Sarawate, Managing Director, Wipro GE Healthcare South Asia, said the company’s AI-powered imaging and digital solutions support precision-led cancer care and added that the partnership strengthens efforts to connect every stage of cancer care, from discovery and diagnosis to treatment.
The collaboration is expected to play a key role in advancing technology-led cancer care and improving patient outcomes across India.
