Mumbai, Apr 13 (CXO Media): Pi Data Centers will launch a 3 MW data center in central Mumbai in August 2026. The move signals continued capacity expansion in India’s growing data infrastructure market, where demand from cloud, AI, and enterprise workloads continues to rise.
Mumbai Data Center Expansion
Pi Data Centers has partnered with property consulting firm JLL to secure and develop its first Mumbai facility, with JLL acting as the leasing advisor for the project. The Mumbai site forms Phase I of a broader 23 MW expansion plan focused on hyperscale, colocation, and cloud workloads. The facility is designed to support enterprise and AI-driven computing needs, particularly in financial and commercial hubs where low-latency access remains critical.
The Mumbai expansion adds to the company’s existing 60 MW hyperscale capacity in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. Another 3 MW facility is also scheduled to become operational in Hyderabad in October 2026. These developments reflect ongoing investments in distributed data infrastructure across major Indian cities.
AI And Cloud Demand Driving Capacity
The growth of artificial intelligence workloads and enterprise cloud adoption has increased pressure on digital infrastructure providers to expand capacity. According to projections cited from JLL’s 2026 Global Data Center Outlook, global data center capacity is expected to double between 2026 and 2030, with around 100 gigawatts of new capacity planned worldwide.
India’s data center market has also seen steady growth, supported by rising demand from sectors such as banking, e-commerce, healthcare, and government services. Increased digitalisation and regulatory requirements around data localisation have contributed to sustained investments in regional infrastructure.
The Mumbai facility is positioned to serve enterprises and hyperscale customers operating in sectors that rely heavily on data processing and secure storage. As AI adoption expands, infrastructure providers are also expected to address power and cooling demands, which remain among the primary operational challenges in large-scale data center deployments.
