Noida, Apr 13 (APAC Media): The Central Government on Monday said that the Indian-flagged LPG vessel Jag Vikram safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz on April 11, carrying around 20,400 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and 24 seafarers onboard, and is expected to reach Kandla port on April 14, according to a statement by Additional Secretary Mukesh Mangal of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
He noted, “The vessel Jag Vikram has successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz and is expected to arrive at Kandla on April 14 with its full cargo intact and all crew members safe.”
Mangal added that maritime operations in the region are being closely monitored in coordination with concerned agencies to ensure the safety and security of Indian-flagged and Indian-owned vessels.
He stated, “We are in continuous coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and other stakeholders to facilitate the safe movement of Indian vessels operating in the region. At present, around 15 Indian-flagged and Indian-owned vessels are in that area.”
Officials said the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global energy shipping route and developments in the region are being closely tracked.
Mangal further said, “All Indian ports are functioning normally and there is no report of congestion or disruption at any major terminal, including Kandla.”
He added that LPG shipments play an important role in ensuring domestic energy supply and that authorities are maintaining constant oversight to avoid any disruption in logistics or supply chains.
Officials reiterated that Indian missions abroad are extending necessary assistance and advisories to seafarers and shipping companies to ensure safe navigation.
They said that real-time monitoring systems and coordination between maritime agencies are helping ensure uninterrupted shipping operations.
The government also emphasized that the safety of seafarers remains a top priority and all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard vessels operating in sensitive maritime zones.
Officials said continued vigilance is being maintained in view of evolving regional conditions while ensuring smooth cargo movement and energy security for the country.
Authorities added that the safe passage of Jag Vikram reflects effective coordination between maritime and diplomatic channels and reaffirmed commitment to protecting Indian maritime interests globally.
