Gandhinagar, May 25 (APAC Media): Gujarat has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Meta Platforms Inc. to enhance citizen service delivery through WhatsApp, marking a major step towards digital governance.Â
This is signed under the vision of “Nagrik Devo Bhava†envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The agreement was signed in Gandhinagar in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
WhatsApp-Based Governance Initiative
Under this initiative, the state government, guided by the Chief Minister and based on recommendations from the Gujarat Administrative Reforms Commission (GARC), has enabled around 20 citizen-centric services from five major departments to be delivered through a WhatsApp chatbot under the Sugam Digital Gujarat initiative.Â
The aim is to simplify access to government services and ensure faster, more efficient last-mile delivery through a single digital platform available in English and Gujarati.

20 Citizen Services on a Single Platform
Citizens across Gujarat will now be able to access nearly 20 essential services directly from their mobile phones using a single WhatsApp number.Â
This initiative removes the need to visit government offices or navigate multiple online portals, making public services more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly.Â
The chatbot will provide services such as grievance redressal support, issuance of income, caste and EWS certificates, ration card updates, access to revenue records, and affidavit-related services.Â
Boost to Transparency and Citizen Convenience
Officials stated that the initiative will significantly reduce time, effort, and cost for citizens while improving transparency and accountability in governance. The system is designed to make service delivery more efficient and responsive to public needs.
Aligned with the broader vision of citizen-centric governance, Gujarat has already implemented initiatives like One Day Governance to ensure faster and more transparent service delivery.Â
