New Delhi, May 26 (APAC Media): Indian Council of Medical Research, functioning under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, organised “Medical Innovations Patent Mitra: Innovators-to-Industry (I2I) Connect” at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi.
The initiative represents one of the country’s first structured platforms aimed at promoting biomedical innovation, intellectual property support, and technology transfer under the ICMR Medical Innovation Patent Mitra programme.
The platform has been designed to help convert indigenous biomedical research into accessible and feasible healthcare technologies through partnership between researchers and industry stakeholders.

Senior Leadership Participates in Launch Event
The event was inaugurated by Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
“This initiative marks an important step in connecting Indian scientific research with industry, ensuring that innovations developed in laboratories are transformed into practical healthcare technologies that strengthen public health and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat,” said Jadhav.
A Focus on Technology Transfer
Rajiv Bahl, Director General of ICMR and Secretary of the Department of Health Research, said the initiative reflects ICMR’s commitment to ensuring that advanced scientific research reaches the public through impactful industry collaborations and technology transfer mechanisms.
During the programme, ICMR also released the ‘Indian Biomedical Patent Landscape Report’ and the ‘Technology Compendium’, aimed at strengthening India’s biomedical field and intellectual property ecosystem.
One of the major highlights of the event was the transfer of 41 public health technologies developed by ICMR institutes to industry partners for further development, manufacturing, and commercial deployment. The technologies included advanced diagnostics, vaccines, medical devices, and biomedical solutions designed to address key public health challenges.
Strengthening India’s Biomedical Ecosystem
In another important development, well-characterised biomaterials, including inactivated KFD and Chandipura viruses, were transferred to industry partners to support India’s biomedical manufacturing and research ecosystem.
Officials at the event stated that this kind of a connection between the innovators and industry people will play a significant role in strengthening India’s biomedical sector, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
