New Delhi, May 26 (APAC Media): NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) to form a joint venture company to develop nuclear power projects in the country.Â
The agreement was signed between NLCIL’s Director (Power) Venkatachalam and NPCIL’s Director (Technical) Rajesh in the presence of NLCIL CMD Prasanna Kumar Motupalli and NPCIL CMD Bhuwan Chandra Pathak, along with senior officials of both companies.
The partnership comes at a time when India targets achieving 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047 to support the country’s long-term energy transition and climate commitments. The proposed joint venture aims to establish 700 MW Indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR)-based nuclear power projects and other reactor technologies of suitable capacities.
According to NLCIL, the initiative gains further significance following the enactment of the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Bill in December 2025, which aims to modernise the legislative and policy framework governing the nuclear sector.
