Bhubaneshwar, May 26 (APAC Media): Odisha has launched the Model Village Mission and the Mahapurusha Adarsha Grama Yojana (MAGY) as part of its broader vision for Viksit Odisha 2036.
The two flagship rural development schemes were rolled out across the state on Monday by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, while the formal launch programme was conducted virtually by Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik.
Model Village Mission to Strengthen Rural Infrastructure
Officials said the Model Village Mission has been designed to provide villages with essential infrastructure, public amenities, and community spaces aimed at improving the quality of life in rural areas.
In the first phase of the mission, the government plans to cover all headquarters villages of 6,733 Gram Panchayats by 2029. Authorities stated that a detailed baseline survey will be conducted to identify gaps in infrastructure and access to essential services at the village level.
Multi-Department Coordination for Implementation
To support the survey and planning process, the government has prepared a comprehensive survey template in consultation with several departments, including Health and Family Welfare, School and Mass Education, Women and Child Development, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, and Energy. The template was released during the launch event.
Additionally, District Level Task Forces led by respective district collectors have also been formed to oversee implementation and supervision at the local level.
MAGY Scheme Focuses on Legacy Villages
During the programme, the Minister also launched the Mahapurusha Adarsha Grama Yojana (MAGY), which focuses on the overall development of native Gram Panchayats associated with eminent personalities who have made remarkable contributions to Odisha’s social, cultural, literary, and political legacy.
The initiative aims to preserve and promote the legacy of these distinguished personalities while accelerating development in their native villages through improved infrastructure and public services.
