Vadnagar, May 21 (APAC Media): Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has established India’s largest skill training institute in Vadnagar, Gujarat. The Industrial Construction Skills Training Institute (ICSTI) has been developed in partnership with the Gujarat government.
The 9.3 acre campus has been designed to deliver industry ready training and skills to youth. The centre features real industrial worksites and offers practical, hands-on training with world-class facilities.
Two initial batches comprising 201 students have already completed training, and 113 graduates have accepted employment offers on major infrastructure projects such as the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train, Ahmedabad Metro Rail, Panipat Refinery, and a solar power project in Khambhalia.
ICSTI-Vadnagar offers structured training programmes in construction, manufacturing and smart world technologies. Courses range from 45 to 90 days depending on market demand.
According to Niranjan Mishra, Head of L&T ICSTI-Vadnagar, the training model has been designed on the standards of the UK’s Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). The curriculum has been developed under CITB guidance to ensure alignment with global industry practices.
Trainees are classified as Level 2, 3 or 4 workers based on their skills and trade expertise. After successful completion of training, candidates are deployed on L&T’s major construction and hydrocarbon projects under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and the Prime Minister Internship Scheme.
The initiative supports the Prime Minister’s Skill India Mission, which focuses on equipping youth with industry-relevant skills and improving employability. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government has also been promoting skill development through industry collaborations and training centres across the state.
Training at the institute is completely free, with L&T providing accommodation and meals for trainees. The campus includes separate hostels for men and women, staff quarters, dining facilities, playgrounds, yoga and meditation halls, gymnasiums, healthcare support, entertainment rooms, and transportation services.
Officials said the institute provides globally benchmarked training standards along with advanced workshops, open yards, and factory-based practical learning facilities. As both the training provider and industry employer, L&T also offers direct placements to successful trainees.
