New Delhi, May 21 (APAC Media): India has issued a health advisory for passengers arriving from or travelling through Ebola-affected countries, asking travellers with symptoms to report to airport health officials before completing immigration formalities.Â
The advisory, released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), applies to passengers coming from or transiting through the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan, which have been identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as high-risk countries for Ebola.

The Airport Health Organisation (APHO) has displayed the advisory at Delhi airport, informing travellers about symptoms linked to Ebola such as fever, weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, sore throat, and unexplained bleeding.
Passengers who may have had direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of a suspected or confirmed Ebola patient have been instructed to immediately inform airport health officers or visit the designated health desk.
According to APHO, travellers who develop symptoms within 21 days of arriving in India should seek urgent medical attention and disclose their recent travel history to authorities.
Meanwhile, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday with health secretaries from states and Union Territories to assess preparedness and response measures related to Ebola.
Officials from the Union Health Ministry clarified that no Ebola case has been reported in India so far. However, following the WHO’s declaration of Ebola as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), the government has strengthened surveillance and preparedness systems across the country as a precautionary measure.
During the review meeting, states and Union Territories were advised to remain fully prepared at all levels. The Centre has already shared detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) covering pre-arrival and post-arrival screening, quarantine measures, patient management, referral protocols, and laboratory testing.
Sources said various ministries and departments have also been alerted and are coordinating with the health ministry to enhance preventive measures and surveillance systems.
Travellers have been advised to watch for symptoms including:
- Fever
- Weakness
- Headache
- Muscle pain
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Sore throat
- Unexplained bleeding
Passengers experiencing any of these symptoms within 21 days of arrival have been advised to immediately seek medical care and inform authorities about their travel history.
