Nagpur, June 3 (APAC Media): In a major step towards promoting clean and renewable energy, AIIMS Nagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT) for the installation of a 4 MW Solar Power Project on its campus.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Prashant P. Joshi, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Nagpur, and Santosh Wahane, Chief General Manager of MAHAPREIT, in the presence of officials from both organisations.
MAHAPREIT is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mahatma Phule Backward Class Development Corporation (MPBCDC), a Government of Maharashtra Public Sector Undertaking. The organization works towards promoting renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure projects across the state.
AIIMS Nagpur has been actively working to increase the use of green energy on its campus. Since 2019, the institute has been operating a 500 kW solar power plant through the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). In addition, a 200 kW rooftop solar power system is currently being installed with the support of NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN).
The new 4 MW solar project is expected to significantly boost the institute’s renewable energy capacity. It will help reduce dependence on conventional power sources, lower electricity costs, and decrease the institution’s carbon footprint.
Officials said the project reflects AIIMS Nagpur’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. The initiative is expected to contribute to a cleaner and greener campus while supporting the broader goal of sustainable development.
