Noida, June 27 (APAC Media): OpenAI has appointed former Uber India & South Asia president Prabhjeet Singh as its managing director for India, reinforcing its focus on one of its fastest-growing global markets.
Joining the company in September, Singh will report to Asia Pacific Managing Director Kiran Mani and lead OpenAI’s India business, including consumer growth, enterprise adoption, strategic partnerships, public policy engagement and overall operations.
The appointment comes as India emerges as one of ChatGPT’s largest user markets, with rapid adoption of generative AI across businesses, startups, educational institutions and government organisations.

Singh spent nearly 11 years at Uber, where he led the company’s expansion across India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, driving growth in mobility services and digital partnerships. Before Uber, he worked at McKinsey & Company and is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Ahmedabad.
The move reflects OpenAI’s broader strategy to strengthen its commercial presence and partnerships in India as competition in the global AI sector intensifies.
