New Delhi, June 19(CXO Media): Samsung is reshaping its consumer electronics business as slowing demand and rising costs put pressure on its smartphone, TV, and home appliance operations.
The company used its latest strategy meetings in South Korea to review plans focused on artificial intelligence, operational efficiency, and a reduced presence in low-margin markets. The move comes as Samsung’s semiconductor division continues to generate the vast majority of the company’s profits, widening the gap between its chip and consumer businesses.
Samsung recently allowed employees in its Device eXperience division to use generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude for work-related tasks. The company is also aiming to transform its global manufacturing network into AI-driven factories by 2030 through digital-twin technology that can simulate and optimize production processes.
The strategy reflects Samsung’s broader effort to integrate AI across products, services, and manufacturing operations as competition intensifies in the global consumer electronics market.
Samsung has also begun trimming lower-margin operations. The company reportedly ended TV and home appliance sales in mainland China in May and is shifting parts of its appliance production to external manufacturers. Some manufacturing facilities are also being consolidated as Samsung focuses on premium product categories.
