Chennai, June 3 (APAC Media): Senior IPS Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal on Wednesday assumed charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu.
Aggarwal succeeds DGP Sandeep Rai Rathore and will serve a two-year term as the head of the state police force. He took charge at his office in Chennai.

His appointment comes days after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the Ministry of Home Affairs’ proposal to repatriate him from the Border Security Force (BSF). He was holding the post of Special Director General in the Border Security Force (BSF).
Mr Aggarwal is a seasoned officer and has held several key positions. He is a 1994 batch IPS officer and was in the panel of three IPS recommended by UPSC for top post appointments.
The new DGP has held several key positions during his career, including serving as the Commissioner of Police, Chennai.
