New Delhi, June 3 (APAC Media): The controversy surrounding the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) On-Screen Marking (OSM) system has intensified. The Government on Tuesday transferred CBSE chairman Rahul Singh and secretary-cum-chief administrative officer Himanshu Gupta.
The government stepped in after reports raised questions about the OSM tender process and possible security issues in the digital marking platform.
To investigate the matter, the government has constituted a one-member committee headed by retired IAS officer S. Radha Chauhan.
He is currently the Chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission (CBC). The government has directed the committee to complete its inquiry and submit a report within one month.
The OSM system drew criticism from parents, teachers and education stakeholders, who questioned the rushed rollout of a new digital mechanism for evaluating nearly 10 million answer sheets.
Reports said the contract was awarded just 74 days before the board exams, raising concerns about its readiness.
CBSE has said that all rules were followed while awarding the OSM contract and has denied any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, the board has opened its re-evaluation portal for students. The portal opened on June 2 and will remain available till June 6, 2026. Students can use it to apply for re-evaluation of their answer sheets.
The ongoing developments have placed CBSE’s technology-driven examination reforms under the spotlight, with the outcome of the probe likely to influence future digitisation initiatives in India’s education system.
