Lucknow, June 29 (APAC Media): The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a Free Residential Coaching Scheme for IAS and PCS aspirants. The move aims to promote social inclusion and give equal opportunity in civil services.
The scheme targets candidates from economically weaker sections of SC, ST, and OBC communities. It will begin in August 2026 and is being run by the Social Welfare Department under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Officials said the goal is simple — no deserving student should miss quality coaching due to lack of money.
So far, more than 5,000 candidates have registered online. This shows strong interest from across districts in the state.
IAS officer Sanjeev Singh, Director of the Social Welfare Department, said the scheme has 865 seats. Of these, 25% seats are reserved for candidates who have cleared the prelims and are preparing for the mains.
Selected candidates will take a selection exam first. Those who qualify will get free residential coaching for IAS and PCS exams.
What the programme offers:
- Free stay and accommodation
- Study material
- Classroom coaching
- Expert guidance and mentorship
Civil services coaching often costs lakhs in private institutes. For many poor and rural students, this becomes a major barrier.
Officials said this scheme is meant to remove that barrier and support equal opportunity.
They also said the entire process will be fully transparent. The government added that the initiative reflects its focus on making civil services preparation open and accessible to all.
