New Delhi, June 30 (APAC Media): The Delhi government has stepped up its efforts to rejuvenate the Yamuna River, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasising public participation as a key pillar of the clean-up campaign.
Leading a mega cleanliness drive at Chilla village in East Delhi’s Yamuna Khadar area on Sunday, the Chief Minister said restoring the river’s health requires collective responsibility and cannot be achieved through government action alone.

The campaign witnessed participation from youth volunteers, community members, and social organisations, highlighting the government’s focus on turning the river restoration programme into a mass public movement.
Focus on Community Welfare
The Chief Minister also visited children residing in a nearby service settlement to assess their educational needs. She directed local MLA Ravikant Ujjainwal and officials concerned to ensure that all necessary educational facilities are provided so that the children’s studies continue without disruption.
Long-Term Restoration Plan
According to the Delhi government, the Yamuna clean-up initiative extends beyond riverbank sanitation and forms part of a broader environmental restoration strategy.
Key measures include diverting and treating drains flowing into the river, preventing untreated sewage from entering the Yamuna, and strengthening waste management systems along the riverbanks.
Officials said these interventions are being implemented in phases to ensure sustainable results.
Weekly Public Drives
Rekha Gupta announced that the government will organise public awareness and action campaigns every Sunday. The initiatives will include cleanliness drives, Yamuna restoration activities, and tree plantation programmes to encourage greater community participation in environmental conservation.
