New Delhi, June 29 (APAC Media): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted the key outcomes of his State Visit to Seychelles, announcing a series of agreements and development initiatives aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
The Prime Minister, who visited Seychelles at the invitation of President Dr Patrick Herminie, attended the country’s 50th Independence Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour.
Key Agreements Signed
India and Seychelles signed several agreements spanning multiple sectors, including:
- UPI implementation in Seychelles through a partnership between NPCI International Payments Ltd. and the Central Bank of Seychelles.
- Jan Aushadhi cooperation to facilitate the supply of affordable generic medicines and medical products.
- An Extradition Treaty to strengthen cooperation against transnational crime.
- An agreement on the peaceful use of outer space, covering satellite applications, technology, and capacity building.
- An MoU to support the construction of a new National Hospital in Seychelles.
- An agreement recognising Indian seafarers’ training and certification for Seychelles-flagged vessels.
- An Umbrella Line of Credit Agreement through the Export-Import Bank of India to finance infrastructure and development projects.
- Expanded agricultural cooperation between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Seychelles’ Agriculture Department for the 2026-2031 period.
- An MoU between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service and Seychelles’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen diplomatic training and institutional cooperation.
Development Assistance
India also announced a package of development assistance for Seychelles, including a Fast Patrol Vessel, 10 utility vehicles, five Laser Radial class boats, six ambulances, 500 metric tonnes of rice, and 8,500 metric tonnes of cement.
Several new initiatives were also launched during the visit, including a commemorative logo marking 50 years of diplomatic relations, the virtual ground-breaking of a Professional and Technical Education Centre, the completion of the refit of the Seychelles Coast Guard vessel PS Zoroaster, and the modernisation of a Dornier aircraft with a glass cockpit.
In another significant development, Seychelles joined the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), further expanding bilateral cooperation in disaster resilience and sustainable infrastructure.
