New Delhi, June 30 (APAC Media): The Centre will provide a range of advanced medical equipment, including 48 AI-enabled portable handheld X-ray devices, to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Tripura under the Prime Minister’s Fund, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Monday.
The announcement follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Tripura Health and Family Welfare Department in New Delhi for the supply, installation, and operationalisation of modern diagnostic equipment across the state.
Advanced Medical Equipment
According to the Chief Minister, who also holds the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, the Centre will provide 48 AI-enabled portable handheld X-ray machines, three Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines, and three Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) mammography systems.
The equipment will be installed at district hospitals in Dhalai, North Tripura, and Gomati, enhancing diagnostic capabilities and improving access to quality healthcare services.
Saha expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for their continued support in upgrading the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
Ayurvedic Medical College Approved
In another boost to Tripura’s healthcare and medical education sector, the Union Ministry of AYUSH has approved the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur in Gomati district.
The institution will admit 60 undergraduate students to the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) programme from the 2026-27 academic session, subject to the fulfilment of statutory norms.
The approval follows the acceptance of the state’s proposal by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM).
Welcoming the decision, Saha said the new institution would strengthen Ayurvedic education, promote the Indian system of medicine, create opportunities for aspiring students, and improve healthcare delivery across the state.
Strengthening Medical Education
Tripura currently has three medical colleges, offering around 550 MBBS seats and nearly 200 postgraduate medical seats, along with a government-run dental college with an annual intake of 63 students.
The Chief Minister said the state government remains committed to strengthening both healthcare infrastructure and medical education to improve access to quality healthcare services for the people of Tripura.Â
