Patna, August 25 (APAC Media): Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has announced plans to develop a 126-km Marine Drive along the Ganga, extending the existing riverfront road network from the Patna region towards Koilwar on the Son River.
The proposed project is estimated to involve an investment of around Rs 70,000 crore and is aimed at improving connectivity, generating employment and creating new opportunities for private investment and economic activity across the state.
Rs 70,000-Crore Project
The proposed investment is expected to include Rs 20,000 crore from the Bihar Government, while around Rs 50,000 crore is proposed to come from private-sector participation.
The Chief Minister said the extended corridor would support infrastructure development while creating employment and opening up new economic opportunities.
Extension of J.P. Ganga Path
The proposed corridor will build on Patna’s existing J.P. Ganga Path, popularly known as the city’s Marine Drive.
The existing riverfront road stretches for around 21 km and was initiated in 2013. According to the Chief Minister, the project was completed in 2025 at a cost of around Rs 6,000 crore.
The government now plans to expand the riverfront infrastructure beyond Patna, extending it towards Koilwar and along a larger stretch of the Ganga.
Focus on Connectivity and Employment
The proposed Marine Drive is being positioned as more than a road infrastructure project. The state government expects the corridor to improve river-side connectivity while supporting new economic activities and employment opportunities.
The project could also encourage greater private-sector participation in infrastructure development and contribute to the expansion of Bihar’s urban and economic network.
