New Delhi, September 20 (APAC Media): The Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, will organise the 9th India International Water Week (IIWW) 2026 from September 22 to 26 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
Held on the theme “Climate Resilient Water Management,” the five-day international event will bring together policymakers, global water leaders, researchers, practitioners, industry representatives, civil society organisations, startups, and young professionals to deliberate on emerging challenges and solutions in the water sector.
Inauguration by the Vice President
The event will be inaugurated by the Vice-President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, on September 22, in the presence of the Union Minister of Jal Shakti and other senior dignitaries.
The Netherlands and Germany will participate as Partner Countries, providing an opportunity for international stakeholders to share experiences, technologies, and approaches for strengthening water security and climate resilience.
At the national level, 14 States will participate as Partner States, while six Central Ministries and Departments have been invited as Partner Ministries and Departments. The participation is expected to strengthen Centre-State cooperation and promote greater convergence across sectors.
Ten Forums to Drive Water Sector Dialogue
IIWW 2026 will feature 10 major forums, including the Ministerial Plenary, Global Water Leaders’ Plenaries, Country Forums, Water Leaders’ Forums, Practitioners’ Forums, Thematic Forums, Startup Forum, Youth Forum, Industrial Forum, and Side Events.
Discussions will centre around seven key sub-themes, covering inclusive water governance, optimal use of water resources, technology and community-led water security, climate-related water risks, innovative financing for water infrastructure, sustainable water resources management, and water for people and the planet.
Technology and WASH Solutions in Focus
An international exhibition and technology showcase will run from September 22 to 25, providing a platform for organisations to present technologies, products, and solutions focused on sustainable and climate-resilient water management.
The Second International WASH Conference 2026, organised by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation from September 22 to 24, will focus on drinking water access, sanitation infrastructure, hygiene behaviour and public health. The conference will explore scalable, affordable, and sustainable approaches to WASH delivery.
From Dialogue to Action on Water Security
A key focus of IIWW 2026 will be translating discussions into actionable recommendations, partnerships, and scalable solutions. The event will seek to bring together policy, financing, technology, and community participation to address the growing challenges posed by climate change and water stress.
The deliberations will conclude with the Valedictory Session on September 25, followed by study tours on September 26. Through its wide-ranging participation and multidisciplinary discussions, IIWW 2026 aims to strengthen global cooperation and advance practical approaches towards a water-secure and climate-resilient future.
