Noida, Sep 21 (APAC Media): Samsung has begun rolling out One UI 9, its latest smartphone software update based on Android 17, bringing new artificial intelligence features, security tools and device-care options to Galaxy users.
The rollout started on September 16 for the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung is expected to expand the update to more compatible Galaxy smartphones and tablets in phases, with availability varying by device, market and mobile carrier.
One UI 9 had earlier arrived on Samsung’s latest foldable smartphones, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8. The Galaxy S26 FE, recently launched in India, comes with the new software pre-installed.
A key addition in One UI 9 is My FanCam, an AI-powered video feature designed to automatically track a selected person in recorded footage. The tool keeps the subject within the frame as they move, which could be useful when recording performances, sporting events or other activities from a distance.
Samsung has also expanded its AI-powered Now Brief feature. Users can access new generative and customisable cards, allowing them to adjust the information shown in their daily summaries. Another feature, called Now Nudge, provides contextual suggestions while users are performing tasks in supported applications.
The company says Now Nudge can help users save useful information from conversations, such as reservation details or locations, without requiring them to manually enter the information elsewhere.
One UI 9 also brings updates to several existing tools, including Creative Studio, Interpreter, document scanning and Voice Recorder. The changes are part of Samsung’s wider push to integrate AI into everyday smartphone functions.
Security has received attention in the new software as well. Samsung has introduced Security Brief and additional privacy alerts intended to provide users with information about potential security risks, unusual application activity and suspicious permission requests.
The update also adds protections against potentially harmful applications.
Samsung is also introducing a new Warranty and Care section within Settings. The centralised section gives users access to information related to device warranties, diagnostics, repairs and Samsung Care+ services.
The One UI 9 rollout will continue gradually across Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem. The company has not provided one universal release date for all eligible devices, meaning users may receive the update at different times depending on their handset and region.
Galaxy S26 users can check for the update by opening Settings, selecting Software update and tapping Download and install.
