New Delhi, September 27 (APAC Media): Senior IAS Piyush Singh has been appointed Mission Director, National Water Mission, under the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti.Â
He will hold the position in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary to the Government of India.
Singh, an officer of the 2000 batch from the Maharashtra cadre, is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power. He brings more than two decades of administrative experience spanning the power sector, public health, social justice, planning, and district administration.
From IIT Delhi to District Administration
A B.Tech. graduate in civil engineering from IIT Delhi, Singh began his administrative career in 2000. Following his training, he served as Assistant Collector in Thane, Maharashtra, gaining early experience in revenue administration, development activities, and sub-divisional governance.
He subsequently served as Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad, Beed, before taking charge as District Collector of Beed. In December 2007, he was appointed District Collector and District Magistrate of Nandurbar, handling district administration, revenue management, public-service delivery, and development coordination.
Experience Across Health, Planning, and Social Justice
Singh later went on an inter-cadre deputation to Uttarakhand. From 2009, he served with the State Rural Health Mission under the Department of Health & Family Welfare in Dehradun, where his responsibilities included public health administration and implementation of healthcare programmes.
He subsequently worked in Uttarakhand’s Planning Department before returning to Maharashtra. Between 2013 and 2015, he served as Chief Executive Officer in the Health, Medical & Family Welfare Department of the Maharashtra government.
From November 2015 to May 2022, Singh served as Commissioner in the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, including responsibilities associated with the Commission for Backward Classes in Pune. The tenure broadened his administrative experience in social justice policy and welfare administration.
Transition to National-Level Roles
In May 2022, Singh joined the Government of India as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Power, marking his transition to national-level energy administration and policy. He was subsequently elevated to Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, with effect from April 2025.
His latest appointment as Mission Director of the National Water Mission brings his experience in infrastructure, planning, and public administration to the water-resources sector.
