Hyderabad: City-based senior interventional cardiologist Dr Sharath Reddy has penned a book titled ‘Decoding CTO’ on chronic total occlusion treatment that was released by Cyberabad police commissioner V.C Sajjanar and Dr. Sampat at an event here on Friday.
Chronic total occlusion (CTO) is a complete or nearly complete blockage of one or more coronary arteries.
CTO occurs when either the left main or right coronary artery — one of the arteries that delivers oxygen-rich blood to the heart — has become completely blocked or occluded for three months or longer.
The blockage is caused by a build up of plaque within a coronary artery. The treatment procedure is quite complex and cardiologists across the world are still honing their skills in it.
Dr Sharath Reddy authored the book along with senior cardiologist Dr Anil Krishna, chairman, Medicover India, based on his long experience and skills.
Dr Reddy said that the coronavirus spread helped him to write the book as he got some spare time during the pandemic. He said the book would be beneficial for students as well as practising cardiologists.
