In view of the current situation of cybercrime in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called for stepping up cyber security infrastructure in the police department of Uttar Pradesh.
Adityanath said that cyber forensic labs should be established at the police zone level, while similarly cyber police stations in all police ranges should be functional in a systematic manner.
The Chief Minister of India’s most populous state said UP has also an opportunity to explore the vast potential offered by manufacturing of electronics items.
“The importance of semiconductors in electronic components is well known, there is immense potential in this field. Uttar Pradesh should take advantage of this opportunity,” Adityanath said.
To deal with cases like cyberstalking and cyberbullying, the Uttar Pradesh government has recently decided to create a “woman cyber cell” at each cyber police station in the state. There are 18 cyber police stations in various cities, including Noida, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Gorakhpur.
The cyber police stations in Lucknow and Noida started in 2018, while others were inaugurated in August last year. These cyber police stations directly report to Lucknow, but do not come under the respective district police.
The Uttar Pradesh DGP earlier issued orders requiring all policemen assigned to police stations to complete the online National Cybercrime Training Centre (CyTrain) course offered by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The training aimed at familiarizing and addressing all individuals involved in investigations with various facets of cybercrime.
