Police booked unidentified persons athe t cybercrime police station for cheating L&T Heavy Engineering. The complaint was lodged by an employee, Somil Shah. The fraud was carried out in April 2022.
When L&T did not receive any confirmation for payment from the US company, they enquired through mail. In the reply, KBR officials informed the victim company that they had not received the payment.
According to the complaint, the fraudsters requested the victim company to make payment at Chase Bank, USA. The accused shared bank account number and swift code for money transfer.
“The accused sent the payment reminder mails from email IDs almost similar to the original email IDs of the US- based company. Due to the similarity, the victim company thought that it was genuine,’’ said a cybercrime official.
“The victim company was inquiring on its own to find out the facts behind the fraud. Later, they informed police and after preliminary investigation, police lodged the offence,” said a police officer.
