PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: To encourage the use of electric vehicles (EVs) within the civic limits, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Thursday announced additional tax benefits. It has planned a 2%-5% discount on the general tax component of property tax for property owners or housing societies setting up EV charging stations on their premises.
PCMC commissioner Shekhar Singh said the rebate will inspire many to shift to EVs. Those eligible can apply for the discount online or offline. Assistant commissioner Nilesh Deshmukh said they expect a positive response from the citizens, especially the larger housing societies.
However, not everyone is convinced. Uday Sabde, secretary of Park Royale Cooperative Housing Society in Rahatani, told TOI, “This is a gimmick. If PCMC really wants to encourage citizens to shift to EVs, then there should be a heftier discount. Giving a 2-5% discount on general tax component just lowers the discounted amount. Also, the application process should be easier.”
