New Delhi: IAS Dr. Pallavi Jain Govil has been appointed as the new Directorate General of Hydrocarbon (DGH). She is presently serving as the Principal Secretary in the Department of Tribal Welfare for the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
Dr. Govil is from the Madhya Pradesh cadre and belongs to the 1994 batch. In her new role, she will be responsible for offering guidance to the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas on matters concerning exploration strategies, production policies, and various other aspects of the hydrocarbon sector.
The DGH is a crucial governmental regulatory body operating under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Additionally, the DGH serves as the central agency responsible for implementing the government’s ambitious New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP) and Coal Bed Methane (CBM) policy.
Dr. Govil previously served as the Principal Secretary of the Public Health and Family Welfare department in Madhya Pradesh in 2019-20. Between August 2016 and 2019, she also held the position of Health Commissioner and Controller of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
She holds a Master’s degree in economics from the Delhi School of Economics in Delhi, India, and another in Public Policy Analysis from Princeton University in New Jersey, USA. She also earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the City University of New York Graduate Center in New York, USA.
