Chandigarh: IPS Madhup Kumar Tiwari has been posted as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Chandigarh, as per an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The 1995 batch AGMUT cadre officer hails from Uttar Pradesh and is taking charge from IPS officer Praveer Ranjan, the former DGP of Chandigarh.
Madhup has previously served in roles such as Special CP, Law and Order in Delhi, the Deputy Inspector General in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Assistant Mechanical Engineer in Indian Railways, as well as a Civilian Police Officer in United Nations Mission in Kosovo.
Madhup has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur and the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Jamalpur. He also holds a PGDPM (Diploma) in Police Management from Osmania University.
