New Delhi: About 100 schools in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) were flooded with bomb threat emails. They were sent to the official email accounts of the schools at around 4 am and led to immediate action from authorities. Among the affected schools, five were in the southwest, three in the east, and ten in South Delhi.
Amongst the targeted schools were Mother Mary School in Mayur Vihar, Delhi Public School in Dwarka, Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Delhi Public School in Vasant Kunj, and Amity School in Saket. All five schools were quickly evacuated after the local police were notified.
Bomb detection teams, bomb disposal squads, and Delhi Fire Service personnel rushed to the sites, and security agencies began investigations. They suspect one person may be behind the threats, with its origin tracing back to Russia. Central agencies are investigating to ensure the safety of all affected schools.
Delhi Police released a statement saying, “During the initial investigation, it seems that since yesterday, till now the mail has been sent to many places, and it seems to be on the same pattern. The date line is not mentioned, and BCC is mentioned in the mail, which means one mail has been sent to many places. At present, an investigation is being done.”
Delhi Education Minister Atishi took to X (formerly Twitter), and said, “Some schools have received bomb threats today morning. Students have been evacuated and those premises are being searched by Delhi Police. So far nothing has been found in any of the schools.”
