New Delhi: Dutch scientists have made significant progress in quantum computing by developing a 2-qubit processor on a silicon chip. This marks a crucial step toward the practical realization of quantum computers, which promise to revolutionize computing with their immense processing power.
The researchers successfully maintained qubits in superposition on a silicon chip, an achievement that could pave the way for mass production of quantum processors.
Although current quantum processors, such as IBM’s 50-qubit machine, require superconductive materials and extreme cooling, the use of silicon—a material already prevalent in the computer industry could simplify production and bring quantum computing closer to mainstream use. This development underscores the potential of quantum computing to solve complex problems in cryptography, healthcare, finance, and beyond.
