New Delhi: The Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi announced the launch of the SHe-Box portal, a centralized platform for registering and monitoring complaints of sexual harassment of women at workplaces. The portal will act as a common platform for women to file complaints, track their status, and ensure time-bound redressal by the designated authority.
Under the provision, two types of committees will be constituted to address women’s complaints, an internal committee (IC) for private institutions and a local committee (LC) for government institutions under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate or the District Collector. The portal will serve as a centralized repository of all the information related to ICs and LCs formed across the country. It will be a one-stop place to monitor the grievances in real-time by all the stakeholders involved, including the nodal officers.
According to the government, this initiative will enhance women’s participation in the workforce and also ensure a safe and secure workplace for women to succeed in their careers. The step taken is in line with the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013. It aims to protect women from sexual harassment in the workplace and address their complaints within the stipulated time.
