Chennai:Â The Tamil Nadu government has appointed IAS N Muruganandam as the new Chief Secretary of the state. He will become the 50th Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu by succeeding Shiv Das Meena who is set to retire in October this year.
Muruganandam is an Indian Administrative Service Officer of the 1991 batch belonging to the Tamil Nadu cadre. He has previously served as the Collector of three districts -Coimbatore, Karur, and Chennai. He was appointed as Industries Secretary in 2019 wherein he played a crucial role in ensuring an adequate supply of oxygen for Covid-19 patients during the second wave. He later headed the finance department as the Secretary in November 2021 before assuming the charge of secretary-1 to the chief minister. He has also served in key roles in the Tamil Nadu and New Delhi governments including as Private Secretary to then Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan and as Joint Secretary in the Union Shipping Ministry.
Muruganandam is an alumnus of Anna University. He graduated in Computer Science Engineering. In addition, he holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
