New Delhi: Dastur Energy Private Limited participated in the workshop on Legal & Regulatory Frameworks for Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) organized by NITI Aayog. The event highlighted recent national and sub-national legislative, regulatory, and policy updates on CCUS within India. Dastur Energy will closely work with NITI Aayog in preparing the CCUS policy framework and its deployment mechanism in the country.
Atanu Mukherjee, Chief Executive Officer and President of Dastur Energy focused on policy design, risk and liability management, market design for CCUS clusters, customized incentives and subsidies, and long-term financing mechanisms during the session. He emphasized the need for CCUS as India advances towards its net zero emissions initiative by 2070. Discussions were also held on legal frameworks for assigning responsibilities to regulatory authorities, generators, and operators for carbon capture and storage. For this purpose, existing precedents from North America, Europe, and Asia were deliberated upon.
