New Delhi: The Centre has announced the appointment of Tuhin Kanta Pandey as the new Finance Secretary in light of the post lying vacant after the incumbent TV Somanathan was appointed the Cabinet Secretary. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the designation of Pandey as the Finance Secretary through an official order.
Pandey is currently serving as the Secretary in charge of key domains in the Finance Ministry- the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), and Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM). He has been the longest-serving Secretary in charge of DIPAM, a department responsible for maximizing the value of Central Government firms and disinvestment of select firms as per the Government policies.
Pandey is an IAS Officer of the 1987 batch belonging to the Odisha cadre. He is known for his expertise in managing public assets and played an instrumental role in handling large-scale disinvestment projects. This includes the sale of Air India, one of the Indian Government’s major disinvestments. In his new role, he is expected to guide the country’s major financial policies and decisions.
