Dispur: The Assam government has relieved State DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh from his post, facilitating his appointment as the Director-General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Singh, a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, will serve in his new role until his superannuation on November 30, 2027, or until further orders, as approved by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet.
Singh has had a distinguished career, serving as Assam’s DGP since January 2023 after succeeding Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta. Prior to this, he held the position of special DGP (law and order). His leadership skills and extensive experience have been instrumental in state law enforcement, and his appointment as CRPF DG marks another milestone in his career.
A notification issued by the state Home Department on Monday stated that Singh’s services have been placed at the disposal of the CRPF for his deputation. The directive stipulates that Singh will assume the role of CRPF DG as per the usual terms and conditions of central deputation. To manage state responsibilities, special DGP Harmeet Singh, a 1992-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as officiating DGP of Assam. Harmeet Singh will temporarily oversee the duties until a regular DGP is appointed.
Singh’s tenure in the CRPF is expected to strengthen the operations of India’s largest paramilitary force.
