Ranchi: In a significant move to empower women in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren transferred ₹2,500 to each woman beneficiary of the ‘Maiya Samman Yojana’. The initiative aims to provide financial aid to women across the state, promoting their economic independence and recognizing their contributions to household and community welfare.
- A Milestone in Women-Centric Governance
The Maiya Samman Yojana, one of the flagship schemes of the Hemant Soren-led government, highlights the administration’s commitment to gender equity and socio-economic development. The scheme was initially launched five months ago with a monthly installment of Rs 1,000. Following a Cabinet meeting, the installment has now been increased to Rs. 2,500 ahead of the elections. The initiative seeks to alleviate financial hardships and enable women to access resources for essential needs, education, healthcare, or small-scale entrepreneurship.
- Impacting More than 50 Lakh Households
This massive initiative, with a total expenditure of more than Rs. 1400 crore, will reach over 56 lakh households across urban and rural areas, ensuring that the benefits of governance touch even the most marginalized communities. The scheme is expected to positively impact women in tribal, rural, and economically weaker sections, enhancing their ability to contribute to family income and decision-making.
- The Road Ahead
The Jharkhand government has been proactive in implementing women-centric policies, and the Maiya Samman Yojana represents a cornerstone of these efforts. By addressing financial insecurities, the initiative strengthens the state’s broader agenda of inclusive development and poverty alleviation.
As the scheme unfolds, it is expected to bring about transformative changes in the lives of women, reinforcing their role as key drivers of social and economic progress in Jharkhand.
